A MACD bullish cross occurs when the MACD line rises above its 9-period signal line, indicating short-term momentum is accelerating relative to the recent trend. It is one of the earlier momentum signals, frequently appearing before price has visibly broken out.
Because MACD is fast and sensitive, the cross is noisy on its own and works best filtered by the broader trend — a bullish cross while price is above its 200-day is higher-quality than one against a downtrend. Read the full MACD guide.
