The Relative Strength Index compares the magnitude of recent gains to recent losses over a lookback period (14 candles by default) and outputs a value from 0 to 100. It is a speedometer for momentum: high readings mean buying has dominated, low readings mean selling has dominated.
Readings of 70+ are conventionally 'overbought' and 30 or below 'oversold', but these levels are context-dependent and unreliable in strong trends. The most valuable RSI signal is divergence. Read the full RSI guide.
