Bear Market

A bear market is a prolonged fall in prices, conventionally a drop of 20% or more from a high, with pessimism and falling volume.

In stocks a bear market starts at a 20% fall from the high. Crypto falls are far deeper: Bitcoin's worst fall since 2019 was around 77%, and many other large coins fell more than 90% and have not regained their highs.

Our study of every big fall in the largest coins shows how deep each went, how long it took to bottom and how long to recover. A bear market usually ends with capitulation, though only in hindsight.
